"Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:34
Hey guys! I hope all of y'all had a great week. This past week for me was pretty fun. I went to a friend's birthday party sleepover, swam a bunch, and cleaned out my closet. Anyway, as you can tell from the title, today's post is about dog tips. If any of y'all have dogs, I hope you find this post helpful!
Tips
- Be prepared if you get a new dog. Always make sure you have the things your dog will need when you get them. With our dog Piper, we found her at the Poodle Rescue of Houston the day she arrived We asked about the adoption process and the guy there said we can come back the next weekend and we can adopt her then. (she needed to be checked out by the vet) So in that week leading up to the adoption, we got all the supplies we needed! But these were special circumstances. The guy there said we would be the perfect family for her so he put her on hold. But for others, you might want to look online first. Also make sure you know what animal hospital you dog will go to to get check-ups and whatnot.
- Make sure they get enough exercise. If Piper doesn't ge enough exercise during the day, she'll be hyper at night and keep us up till 1AM. So I recommend daily walks and just playing with them as much as possible. Another way for them to get exercise is by taking them to a local dog park. That way, they can socialize, get exercise, and run around freely! Just make sure you keep an eye on them.
- Know what is poisonous. We occasionally give Piper bits of fruit or veggies but we always make sure its safe. Here are a couple things that you never want to let them eat: chocolate, grapes, avocado, most nuts especially macadamia, onions, garlic, a lot of herbs, a large amount of sugary foods, xylitol (a sugar in a lot of candy and gum), etc. Remember, ALWAYS check with your vet when giving your dog new foods!
- Don't give them too many treats. This is a mistake that a lot of people can make. A lot of the time if you give your dog too many treats it will stop eating it's food and become more picky. I'm not saying that you can't give your dog treats, I'm just saying be careful with how many you give them.
- Don't 100% trust online. There are a lot of conflicting ideas on how to take care of a dog online. Online can have great tips, but it's best to ask you vet about things like this. I'm not a pet expert either, so even my advice might not work for you or be 100% accurate. This is just what works for me. (bonus: we buy a lot of our supplies from a website called chewy.com which has good prices)
